意味も脈絡も背景も感じない、ただそこにあるだけの何かしらの風景。
そういうものがいつも私に絵のきっかけを与えてくれます。
それらは特別なものではありません。
しかし自分の頭の中に存在する色や形にはまるで収まらない物たちで 構成された光景が目の前にあり、
それらが美しかったり面白かったりして描きたいと、 絵にしたらどうなるのか見てみたいと、私に思わせるのです。
自分の身体を通過して絵具という物質に置き変わったその風景は、かつての面影を残しながらも独自の秩序を持って自立し、
今までに見たことが無い新しい風景となって目の前に現れます。
それを見た時私は驚きと納得とささやかな感動を得、そしてもっとたくさんの、 そこにあるだけの新しい何かしらの風景を見てみたいと思います。
私は作品に特別なメッセージを込めません。ストーリーや感情も極力排除しています。
私の作品は単なる絵画でしかなく、それ以上でも以下でもありませんが、それで充分なものであって欲しいと常に願っています。
Something that feels like a scene with no meaning, no context, no background—simply existing there.
It is things like that which always give me the starting point for a painting.
They are not special.
And yet, before me appears a view composed of colors and forms that could never fit within my own imagination.
They can be beautiful or intriguing, and they make me want to paint them—to see what they would become as a painting.
Once they pass through my body and are transformed into the material of paint,
those scenes, while retaining traces of what they once were, begin to stand on their own with a unique order.
They emerge before me as entirely new landscapes I have never seen before.
When I see them, I feel surprise, a sense of understanding, and a quiet kind of wonder.
And it makes me want to see more—more of these new, simply-existing landscapes.
I do not try to embed any special message in my work.
I avoid story and emotion as much as possible.
My work is nothing more than painting—no more, no less—but I always hope that will be enough.
